Why Wrong Turns Matter When Kids Are Learning

Linda in the Moment!

Sometimes the wrong turn teaches more than the easy path.

When children are learning something new, we naturally want to help them get to the right answer. But a mistake, a wrong turn, or an idea that does not work can become one of the most valuable parts of the lesson.

A child working through a maze may reach a dead end. A young entrepreneur may choose a price that does not make sense. A student using AI may receive an answer that needs to be checked. Those moments create opportunities to stop, think, adjust, and try again.

Instead of immediately correcting every mistake, we can ask:

What did you notice?
What could you try differently?
What did this mistake teach you?

Those simple questions help children practice problem-solving, critical thinking, patience, and confidence.

The goal is not to teach kids that mistakes do not matter. The goal is to teach them what to do next when something does not work.

Sometimes the wrong turn is exactly where the learning begins.

People First. AI Second. Kindness Always.
